The silent man has no enemy, though he might not have many friends. He has the leisure and the chance to dive within himself and examine his own faults and failings. He has no inclination to seek them in others.
If your foot slips, you earn a fracture, but if your tongue slips you fracture some one's faith and joy. That fracture can never be set right. It will last forever. Use your tongue with great care. The softer you talk, the less you talk, the sweeter the talk, the better for you and the world.
Anger is deadly poison. It affects others by its fumes, manifested through the eyes, the tongue and the hands. The seed of a poison tree sprouts into a poisonous plant and when it becomes a big tree, its leaves flowers and fruits will be certainly poisonous. So too, the person addicted to anger can only emanate poison, through thoughts, word and deed. An angry thoughts is like a pebble thrown into the calm water of the mind lake, inside man. It creates a circular effect which spreads through the entire lake. Strive by all means to prevent the poison entering your mental make-up. Cultivate love, kindness, the spirit of seva and encourage all thoughts of co-operation with others. See the divinity in each one, as you must see it in your own selves.
Roots of All Evils
Bring changes in your lifestyle. Inculcate right food habit, sleep patterns, recreation habits and thoughts. Move the body but still the mind. It is our life style which is responsible for our health. When we eat mindlessly for taste, it leads us forever to "feed the tongue not the body. One should practice yoga to purify the heart by controlling his mind, senses and activities. Anger is another enemy of health. It injects poison into the blood stream and brings abut profound transformation that damages it.
Managing Anger
If you suffer from a fit of anger do not act immediately. If you start enquiring the cause of your anger you will find that the speed of anger will be reduced. If you are inflicted by conflict or by sorrow, sit quietly in one place or walk speedily. You can even go to the bathroom and turn the tap on and attempt to merge your voice with the sound of the falling water. You will find that your sorrow is gone in the process of your harmonizing your voice with the sound of the tap water. In times of anger, one should drink a glass of cold water or sit down or look into the mirror. There are so many strategies by which your anger can be quelled.
